THE HISTORY OF THE BRAQUE DU BOURBONNAIS

The Braque du Bourbonnais is a versatile hunting dog breed that originated in France. Believed to have been around since the 15th century, this medium-sized pointing dog was originally bred for hunting game birds and small mammals. The breed's name is derived from the Bourbonnais region in central France, where it was developed. Known for its keen sense of smell and excellent hunting skills, the Braque du Bourbonnais quickly gained popularity among French hunters.

Unfortunately, the breed faced a decline in numbers during the World Wars, with efforts made to revive and preserve it in the mid-20th century. Through careful breeding programs, the Braque du Bourbonnais was successfully reestablished, and its population has been gradually increasing since then.

Today, the Braque du Bourbonnais is recognized for its affectionate and loyal nature, making it not only a skilled hunting companion but also a beloved family pet. With its distinctive spotted coat and athletic build, this breed continues to thrive both in the field and at home, embodying the rich history and legacy of French hunting dogs.

When it comes to breeding pointers for health and ability, there are key factors we consider. We begin by selecting breeding stock with strong physical health, sound genetic backgrounds and heavy drive in the upland bird field.

Thorough health screenings are preformed to prevent hereditary issues and ensure that both parents possess desirable traits such as stamina, intelligence, and ability. The Sire and Dam of each litter has certifications in PEN hip and elbows, OFA eyes, Genetic health screening and Cardio cleared.

We prioritize diversity in genetics to avoid inbreeding and it’s associated problems by importing our founder pack members from France, Czech Republic, Finland, etc...

When observing the behavior of developing puppies, it is crucial to consider their stage of growth and socialization. Young puppies exhibit exploratory behavior, curiosity, and playful interactions with their littermates and surroundings. As they grow, they start showing signs of independence, territorial behavior, and social hierarchies within their group. Understanding these natural behavioral patterns is essential for effectively placing and training puppies for a well-adjusted adulthood.

As a world renown Animal Behavior Specialist and Author, David Kurlander places heavy emphasis on the psychological development of each puppy. As each puppy develops their individual personality, we encourage and support their natural desires. By doing so we can provide the puppy with a fulfilling and happy life by placing them in the best, most conducive home for both dog and owner. We evaluate each puppy as they develop in order to provide the best fit for your lifestyle which will set your new puppy for a wholly fulling life and prevent early developmental behavioral issues.

We also pay special attention to the cleanliness of the brooding process. We encourage and guide each puppy toward not messing where they play, eat or sleep. Our guidance is done at an early age and will help to facilitate the house breaking process in their new home.
